Ho-ho-ho. It’s that time of the yeeear.
Sorry for putting that tune in your head, but I can’t help it. There’s a meme circulating online that sums it up perfectly: a December calendar showing our collective ability to work waning week by week. We’re hitting that point when even pretending to work feels like a monumental effort.

The end of December and the Christmas holidays have always been my favorites. It’s dark outside, maybe even snowing, and there’s a biting chill in the air. Yet, we’ve got twinkling lights, decorated trees, presents to look forward to, and most importantly—so. much. food. Don’t tell me eating isn’t a tradition. Of course it is! These delicious meals exist specifically to be devoured at this time of year. Let’s not argue about it.

Ahem, so anyway, back to the holiday season.

I find it bizarre how many people postpone all their crucial work until December. Everyone knows—especially if you live in the northern hemisphere—that by year’s end, nobody has the energy for “serious and important tasks.” But hey, what do I know? I’m not a business owner. In my mind, I’m already picturing the perfect morning: I wake up, grab a coffee and some leftovers, put on a vinyl record, and stare at the Christmas lights for 30 minutes like a cat mesmerized by a laser pointer. That’s the kind of holiday mood I’m aiming for. After that, maybe I’ll bake something sweet, eat more goodies, and then stare at the lights for another 30 minutes. Is that really so much to ask?

One lesson I’ve learned in the past couple of years is the importance of vitamin D in winter. Without it, I need 10 hours of sleep instead of eight, and that completely eats into my day. Not ideal when there’s a buffet of holiday treats waiting! Future me might hit the gym, but current me is a content, well-fed piglet, and I’m fine with that.

Another perk of December is that everyone’s too lazy to leave the house. The fear of missing out or feeling guilty for declining bar invites just evaporates. You can cuddle up on the couch and play video games all day without a care in the world. That’s a feeling we hardly get anymore as adults in the corporate machine, and I savor it whenever I can.

I think you get the gist of it. Let’s pause before this post becomes more serious than intended. Stay strong, people—only about 10 days until Christmas. Hopefully you’ve saved a few vacation days so you can properly rest.

Stay safe out there,
Commodore Bo, out.

P.S. I know, I know—Chapter 4 is in progress, I promise! It’s about 50% done, and now that the story’s picking up steam, these chapters are getting a bit longer. I won’t leave you hanging. Promise!
