Oh my god, I haven’t written a single blog post in almost eight months. This is absolutely crazy. I blame the insane, almost crunch-like workload we had at work, and the much-needed two months after that just to recover from it before I was able to put ANY effort into opening Obsidian and writing some thoughts down.

And if we’re being honest, holy fuck, what has happened in the last eight months, eh?

AI, data centers, political bullshittery all over the globe – which I’m not even going to get into in detail – prices skyrocketing, storage prices, RAM prices, Steam Deck, Steam Machine!.. computer parts prices in general… it is nuts!

The last couple of weeks especially – oh my gawd, what is happening?

PlayStation is closing the PS3 Store. GTA 6 is apparently going to ship with only the case and a digital code inside – no disc. Sony announced right after that that they’re going to stop producing physical game discs from January 2028. Xbox just laid off thousands of people, sold two studios, two more are going independent, id Software – the studio behind the Doom games – has been left with a core team, they announced more Xbox exclusives, and maybe they’re going to create another Xbox machine.

Honestly, what the fuck is going on?

At least we’ve had our FIFA World Cup over the last month, so I’ve been watching that every evening – except for the games that were at three, four, five o’clock in the morning for me, because time zones. You can imagine how much drama a whole month of football and FIFA has stirred up. But it was a much-needed break from everything else.

Temperatures have been rising, so that’s also cool – or rather… warm. Brain capacity drops immediately. The desire to work on any projects that involve physical labour isn’t really there either, because your brain goes:

“Are you SURE about that? No, we’re not doing this. We’re hugging the AC and living there. Don’t even think about making me uncomfortable.”

To which you, most of the time, answer:

“Say no more, brain. Let’s mash that potato into the chair and sit there for 15 hours.”

Which… is not helping me lose any weight. Because, you know, getting no exercise and sitting in a chair all day, every day, is not particularly good for you.

Anyway.

So, I haven’t had the urge to write anything for a long time, which is what I wanted to say, because shit is wild. And, you know, a WordPress subscription is not particularly cheap, so I feel bad for not putting out something – anything.

But the brain juices are flowing at full speed this evening. It’s Sunday, 12 July, so, you know, the semi-finals are on the 14th, and today we had a biiig thunderstorm, so the temperature is actually really pleasant. It’s 18°C right now, so the brain is braining.

It’s not a particularly interesting thing to read, but every time you take a break from doing something, just embrace the process. I’m almost 3000 characters deep into whatever this is right now, so that’s 3000 characters more than I wrote over the past eight freaking months.

Which is good.

Hey, I’ve been doing some pretty cool home renovation projects. I actually built my very own shoe rack from scratch. That was an extremely rewarding experience. It’s not very complicated, just a simple structure, and it does what it was created to do really well.

I’ve also been doing some house plumbing. Sort of.

I can see why those people charge what they charge for their services. It’s not rocket science, per se, but it’s water. Having experience and knowing where the potential points of failure are is actually really valuable.

Because, you see, me? I’ve done something around the house once or twice. I have no idea what I’m doing. I see what needs to be done, I do it, but something always fails. There’s a little leak here and there, and I go:

“Oh shit, here we go again. What did I mess up this time?”

So that’s also fun.

And maybe a couple of final points I wanna write about, because I’m losing momentum with the things I’m writing right now.

Another thing I hate about the weather being hot is that, for some reason, I really enjoy gaming when it’s cold and dark outside. When it’s sunny and warm, my desire to play games just vanishes, which is sad because my backlog is still this gargantuan juggernaut full of lovely games that I really want to play.

Not only is there not much time for games when work is busting your ass, but nooo, Mister Commodore here can only play games when the weather is colder.

I hate that.

So anyway, if you’ve read all that, my god, I’m sorry for all that word salad. But maybe you were laughing along the way. Either way, thanks for sticking around.

I do hope that over the next couple of months, because I know our workload will be lighter while clients are on summer vacation, I’ll have more brain juices flowing so I can actually write something that makes sense. Something that makes a point at the end. Maybe something you learn along the way.

Or maybe not.

Sometimes, random words on a page are exactly the thing you needed that day.

Who knows?

Stay safe out there.

Commodore Bo, out.
